WEST DIVISION

Taylor Berlin, 1B/DH, Jr., Hardin-Simmons

Hardin-Simmons junior first baseman/designated hitter Taylor Berlin (Tomball, TX / THS) went 10-for-18 with five doubles, a home run and six RBIs over a 3-2 week, including a series win over ASC West Division opponent Mary Hardin-Baylor. Berlin also walked five times and scored five runs. He had a stretch of reaching base in 10 straight plate appearances, including four extra-base hits.

Brennyn Smith, 2B, Fr., Sul Ross State

Sul Ross State freshman second baseman Brennyn Smith (Montgomery, TX / MHS) went 8-for-12 with two home runs, a double and 10 RBIs to fuel an ASC West Division sweep of Schreiner. Smith also scored six times, walked once and struck out just one time. Smith, who leads the conference in RBIs, went 5-for-5 in the series opener with a grand slam in his first at-bat.

Brad Orosey, RHP, So., Texas Lutheran

Texas Lutheran sophomore right-hander Brad Orosey (Houston, TX / Cypress Creek HS) struck out a career-high 14 batters over eight shutout innings to defeat McMurry in a West Division opener for both teams. Orosey, who takes the division’s top weekly pitching award for the third time this season, scattered three hits and did not walk a batter. He improved to 6-0 through six starts and lowered his ASC-leading ERA to 1.15.

EAST DIVISION

Logan Smith, OF, Fr., LeTourneau

LeTourneau freshman outfielder Logan Smith (Terrell, TX / THS) went 14-for-29 with four doubles, a home run, a triple and six RBIs to pace a 4-1 week. Smith, who had four multi-hit games, did not strike out once and scored five runs. He also stole four bases.

Matt Sparks, RHP, Sr., Texas-Tyler

Texas-Tyler senior right-hander Matt Sparks (Owasso, OK / OHS) tossed a complete-game with a career-high 12 strikeouts in an ASC East series-opening win over East Texas Baptist. Sparks scattered eight hits and walked just one batter over the nine frames. He also tossed a scoreless inning of relief with one strikeout earlier in the week against nationally-ranked Marietta

HITTERS: Texas-Dallas SS Jacob Starnes went 12-for-25 with two homers and two doubles over a 4-2 week. . . . Ozarks C Jeremy Hogan went 6-for-11 with two homers and two doubles in a series against Texas-Dallas. . . . Texas-Tyler SS Corey Henderson went 9-for-17 and crossed the plate nine times over a 3-1 week. . . . Concordia Texas OF Robert Brown went 6-for-8 with four doubles over a series win over Howard Payne. . . . Mary Hardin-Baylor OF Joseph Villegas went 8-for-14 over five games and was intentionally walked five times in a doubleheader with Hardin-Simmons. . . . Texas Lutheran DH Jason McGill went 9-for-16 with a homer, triple and double over a 3-1 week. . . . Howard Payne OF Taylor Zambreski went 5-for-11 with a homer, two doubles and eight RBIs over four games.

PITCHERS: Texas-Dallas RHP Cameron Brown allowed just one run over two appearances that spanned 9 1/3 innings. . . . Ozarks RHP Cory Briggs struck out nine over seven innings in a win over Texas-Dallas. . . . LeTourneau RHP Jeremy Burke tossed a complete-game with four strikeouts in a win over the University of Dallas. . . . . Mary Hardin-Baylor RHP Cameron Arnett threw his first complete game and scattered four hits to beat Hardin-Simmons. . . . Hardin-Simmons RHP Tyler Brunnemann struck out six batters and allowed just one earned run over two appearances that spanned 5 1/3 innings. . . . Concordia Texas RHP Pedro Maldanado tossed four innings without allowing an earned run in a no decision against HPU.
