RICHARDSON, Texas –– The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor posted a league mark of 17-4 to win the American Southwest Conference West Division title and the right to host the 2010 ASC Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament at Mayborn Campus Center in Belton, Texas, beginning Friday and lasting through Sunday (Feb. 26-28).
The entire eight-team, single elimination event will be available for fans through free live video streaming with audio provided by College TV Ticket (collegetvticket.com). The direct link for all seven games is here.
“College TV Ticket takes great pride in the selection by the American Southwest Conference as the web distribution network for their 2010 ASC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament,” said Dennis Jacobs, president of CTVT, which is in its third season of webcasting Division III and Division II sports to alumni and parents of student-athletes.
UMHB will have a tournament page on www.cruathletics.com and the conference will have a “Tournament Central” page on www.ASCsports.org where the links to video can also be accessed as well as those for live stats, box scores, game recaps, photos and updated brackets.
Head coach Ken DeWeese and UMHB (19-6), winners of the 2008 ASC crown when the tournament was first held at Mayborn Campus Center, will be making its 10 overall appearance to the conference tournament. UMHB, which won the West Division title for the third time in four years, will begin quarterfinal action at 7:30 p.m. on Friday against East Division No. 4 seed University of Texas at Tyler (15-10). The Patriots have made the ASC tourney all three years since becoming eligible after serving four years as an NCAA provisional member.
Head coach Terry Butterfield and defending champion University of Texas at Dallas (21-4) enter as the East Division champion, a crown it has claimed three times. Nationally-ranked UTD, which has qualified for seven straight ASC basketball tournaments and also won the league title in 2005, is in the first quarterfinal on Friday when it tips off at noon against West Division No. 4 seed and 2004 ASC champion Sul Ross State University (9-16).
McMurry University (17-8), which has won three ASC titles with the last coming in 2001, enters as the West Division’s No. 2 seed and will open play at 2:30 p.m. on Friday against the East’s No. 3 seed, East Texas Baptist University (14-11). ETBU returns after a one-year absence.
Mississippi College (18-6), which has won an ASC-record six league titles and is the only team to qualify for all 12 ASC tournaments, will serve as the East’s No. 2 seed. The Choctaws, who fell 85-72 in the title game last season, will battle West Division No. 3 seed Concordia University Texas (16-9) at 5 p.m. on Friday. The Tornados have made four straight tourneys and reached the title game the last time the event was in Belton, Texas.
The semifinals are scheduled to tip-off Saturday at 2 p.m. (UTD-SRSU winner vs. McM-ETBU winner) and 4:30 p.m. (MC-CTX winner vs. UMHB-UT TYLER winner), with the championship game coming Sunday at 2 p.m.
The ASC championship tournament winner earns an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship.

- Admission prices for each day will be $7 for adults and $3 for students. A tournament pass can be purchased for $15.

- Note about construction on UMHB campus, concerning traffic: Work has begun on a new sewer line on University Drive. The work will run from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday (no weekend work is anticipated). During evening hours, University Drive will be open to traffic. During the day, we have been asked to have all traffic avoid University Drive to minimize any potential delays caused by resetting equipment. There will be signs posted on Crusader Way and 9th Street advising that there will be “NO THROUGH TRAFFIC” during the work hours. However there may be one lane of traffic available. Thus, All visitors to Mayborn Campus Center are encouraged to use 9th Street and King Street to access the Mayborn parking lots on February 26 and 27 (Friday and Saturday). While the parking lot in front of the Mayborn Arena may be accessed from University Drive, UMHB encourages everyone to access these lots from King Street and Mabee Drive.
