Choctaws Fall Short at Baseball Regional

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. - The Mississippi College Choctaws fell to tournament host Linfield College 12-3 Saturday night in the championship game of the NCAA Division III West Regional. The Choctaws reached the championship game courtesy of a 6-5 win earlier in the day against Pomona-Pitzer College.
In the title game, the Choctaws (39-11) fell behind early with Linfield scoring two runs in the first and second inning for a quick 4-0 lead. Bo Bell put the Choctaws on the board in the bottom of the second with a solo homerun, his 11th of the season.
Linfield (32-10) answered with three unearned runs in the top of the third to take a commanding 7-1 lead. A two-run home run from Brannon Wells in the bottom of the inning pulled the Choctaws within 7-3.
Linfield tacked on a run in the sixth with a solo homerun, and added four more in the eighth with back-to-back-to-back home runs.
The Choctaws opened West Regional play with a 6-1 loss to Linfield on Thursday (May 20), then over Friday and Saturday knocked Trinity (TX), Texas-Tyler and Pomona-Pitzer out of the tournament en route to a first-ever regional championship game appearance. MC set new a new school record for wins (39) in the 2010 season.
