BEREA, Ohio – Freshman pole vaulter Taylor Reed capped off a remarkable freshman season at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday, finishing in a tie for seventh place with McMurry's Thomas Dimitri with a vault of 4.86m to earn 1.5 points and automatically qualify for All-American status.
Reed was the lone competitor for UT Tyler in the national championships and just the second in school history. He steadily improved as the year went by, setting a new school record with a vault of 4.93m (16'-02).
North Central College's Jake Winder won the event with a new stadium record vault of 5.16m (16'-11"), breaking Chad Thomas' record of Muskingum set back in 1993.
