Spring Sportsmanship Honors Announced

All-Time Award Recipients

RICHARDSON, Texas - Eight American Southwest Conference member institutions have been recognized by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committees of the conference as recipients of ASC-SAAC Team Sportsmanship awards for the spring 2017 seasons.
 
The SAAC Team Sportsmanship award honors the member institution in each ASC championship sport that best displays positive qualities of sportsmanship and fair play from its student-athletes, coaches and fans throughout the season.
 
Spring awards are presented in baseball, men’s and women’s golf, softball, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s track and field with each campus SAAC voting within the sports it sponsors. The ASC SAAC Team Sportsmanship award is presented for a 10th year during the 2016-17 sport seasons.
 
Honored for sportsmanship during spring 2017 seasons are:
  • Howard Payne University: Baseball and Men’s Tennis/West Division;
  • LeTourneau University: Men’s Golf and Men’s Tennis/East Division;
  • Hardin-Simmons-University: Women’s Golf;
  • McMurry University: Women’s Tennis/West Division;
  • University of Mary Hardin-Baylor: Softball;
  • East Texas Baptist University: Men’s Track and Field;
  • Sul Ross State University: Women’s Track and Field; and
  • University of the Ozarks: Women’s Tennis/East Division.
 
LeTourneau was honored for a fifth year in men’s tennis (2010, ’12, ’14, ’16, ’17) and a third year in men’s golf (2009, ’14, ’17). YellowJackets teams were recognized with ASC SAAC Team Sportsmanship awards in six sports programs during the past year – men’s basketball, men’s cross country, men’s golf, women’s soccer, men’s tennis and volleyball.
 
Howard Payne earned its third citation in baseball (2011, ’14, ’17) and a second time in men’s tennis 2016, ’17). HPU also earned the sportsmanship award in football in the fall sports season.
 
Two institutions were honored for a third consecutive seasons in two sports: Hardin-Simmons in women’s golf and Ozarks in East Division women’s tennis (2015, ’16, 17). HSU was also cited in women’s soccer last fall.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor and Sul Ross State were each honored for a second consecutive spring, UMHB in softball and SRSU in women’s track and field (2016, ’17). In 2016-17, UMHB was also recognized in West Division volleyball while SRSU earned awards in both West Division men’s and women’s basketball.
 
East Texas Baptist was recognized in men’s track and field and McMurry in West Division women’s tennis for the first time. ETBU also received honors in East Division men’s and women’s basketball and women’s cross country during the past year. McMurry was also a multiple sport honoree in 2016-17 cited in West Division women’s basketball and volleyball, and women’s soccer.
