RICHARDSON, Texas – Mary Hardin-Baylor senior running back

Jefferson Fritz were named Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively, to highlight the 2018 American Southwest Conference football awards, the ASC office announced Friday after a vote of the league’s head coaches.
Miller, a three-time All-ASC selection, led the conference with 130.1 rushing yards per game and ranked third in the nation with 22 rushing touchdowns and eighth with 7.7 yards per carry. He ran the ball 168 times for 1,301 yards and caught five passes for 74 yards and a pair of TDs.
Fritz led the nation with eight interceptions and helped the Cru to the best turnover margin in the country. He racked up 135 yards on interception returns, including one touchdown and broke up another six passes. Fritz also recorded 28 tackles, including one for a loss, and blocked a kick.

Colton Hall was named the Offensive Lineman of the Year. He helped the ASC champion Cru lead the nation in scoring offense with 62.3 points per game and rank 10th in total offense (491.3) and rushing (269.6).
Cru junior defensive tackle
Joey Longoria was selected as Defensive Lineman of the Year. He anchored the Cru’s defensive line that led the nation by allowing just 174.4 yards and 6.4 points per game. Longoria tallied 43 tackles, 11.5 for a loss of 73 yards, 7.5 sacks for 56 yards, forced one fumble and recovered two.
Hardin-Simmons senior
Reese Childress was voted the Special Teams Player of the Year for the second time. A First Team pick at wide receiver and punter, Childress ranked sixth in the nation with a 20.7 punt return average with one touchdown. He also led the ASC with a 41.3 per punt average. As a receiver, he caught 65 passes for 847 yards and 10 touchdowns and had three scores rushing.
Freshman of the Year honors went to Texas Lutheran kicker
Juan Ocampo, who was perfect in the kicking game. Ocampo was 45-for-45 in extra point attempts and 8-of-8 in field goals, including a long of 44 yards.
Mary Hardin-Baylor’s
Pete Fredenburg was named Coach of the Year for the 11th time. Fredenburg led the Cru to a 10-0 overall record and 9-0 in conference play, en route to their 16th ASC title and 17th trip to the NCAA Championship. UMHB led the nation in scoring offense, scoring defense and total defense in 2018.
Thirty-five players made a return appearance to the all-conference team led by four-time selections
Orel Ledet Jr. of Louisiana College and
Byron Jones of Sul Ross State. Six players are making their third appearance on the All-ASC team.
