DUBUQUE, IA --- Hardin-Simmons’ men’s soccer team fell 1-0 to Whitworth in the NCAA Division III Championship third round Saturday evening at the Rock Bowl in Dubuque, Iowa.

Whitworth scored the only goal of the game at the 63:37 mark when they headed in a free kick from the top of the box and it went off a Hardin-Simmons player into the goal, giving the Pirates an own goal.

HSU outshot Whitworth 13-7 in the game and it was 3-3 on-goal. HSU had six corners in the game. Whitworth was able to clear a couple of Cowboy corner kicks off the line in the second half.

Brian Sherpe got the shutout in goal for Whitworth and Logan Waters had two saves for the Cowboys.

The American Southwest Conference champion Cowboys finish their season with a record of 12-3-6 and own the most successful postseason run ever by a men's soccer team from the American Southwest Conference. Whitworth will play Dominican for the right to go to the Final Four on Sunday.

It was the final game of the careers of Estevan Arbaiza, Colin McDaniel, Robert Pedigo, Griffin Pedigo, Patrick Almond and Jeff Ridley.
