CLINTON, MS - The Harrisburg City Islanders of the United Soccer League recently announced the signing of former Mississippi College forward Phillip Buffington to their 2009 roster. Scouted by the coaches at the USL combine, Buffington brings an impressive resume into his rookie season.

"I'm excited to see Phillip get this opportunity to move on to the next level of his professional career," said MC Head Coach Kevin Johns. "He has the talent and ability to succeed at the next level and I expect him to have a great year for Harrisburg."

Buffington enjoyed a record-setting career with the Choctaws. The three-time All-Conference selection set a school record and tied the American Southwest Conference’s all-time mark by scoring 54 goals in just three seasons, and shattered the conference mark for goals per game average. He will look to transfer his past scoring success into goals for his Harrisburg, PA team.

Buffington also was a standout the last two years for the Mississippi Brilla FC, a Clinton, MS-based Premier Development League team of the USL. Buffington scored 12 goals in two season, leading the club in that category in 2008.

The Harrisburg City Islanders will start their regular season on Saturday, April 18 on the road against Richmond Kickers.
