Having had Jonathan in a few of my classes I know that his academic work is top notch and I know that his contributions to the soccer team—in both performance and leadership—have been invaluable. He is a multiple year letterman who started every game for the soccer team for two straight years. As a double major and active member of the soccer team he has still managed to maintain a perfect 4.0 grade point average in his course work. He has taken some of the most demanding classes in his two majors and spent a spring semester at Oxford University. Clearly, he does not shy away from challenges and rightfully received the LeTourneau Athletic Department’s Scholar Athlete of the Year Award , as well as the Bible Department’s Outstanding Student Award for 2008-2009. I cannot think of anyone more worthy of this American Southwest Conference award.

Her class work is always well-done and on time, a reflection of her sense of responsibility and dedication to the task. Her 3.9 grade point average confirms that this sense of determination to excel has been evident in all of her academic work. As an athlete who has earned multiple year letters in two sports, I know this determination is a part of her athletic work as well. Abigail is a competitor who strives to win, but she is also a valuable teammate who enlivens and encourages the team (this is also evident in the classroom). She served as captain of the volleyball team this year. In talking with her coaches it is clear that her contributions to the team go beyond her considerable talent in the sport itself. This was reflected clearly in her being chosen as the volleyball team’s student-athlete of the year this year. She has a wonderfully positive and infectious personality; she has been a model student-athlete, an active member of our student community, and is deserving recipient of the American Southwest Conference’s Scholar-Athlete Award.
