RICHARDSON, Texas –– Texas-Tyler freshman Amy Friesenhahn and Mary Hardin-Baylor senior Megan Aarhus have been named division most valuable players to highlight the 2012 American Southwest Conference women’s tennis awards as voted on by the league’s head coaches, the ASC office announced on Friday (May 4).
Friesenhahn (Austin, TX / McNeil HS) earned the title of East Division Most Valuable Player after going 15-5 in No. 1 singles – including a perfect 6-0 run through division opponents. Friesenhahn, who teamed with Sydni Hermsdorf for a 16-2 record in No. 1 doubles, also helped the Patriots win conference and division titles.
Aarhus (Georgetown, TX / GHS) earned the title of West Division Most Valuable Player after going 11-4 in No. 1 singles – including a perfect 6-0 mark against division opponents. Aarhus, who teamed with twin sister Mallory Aarhus for a 3-0 division record in No. 1 doubles, also helped lead the Cru reach the semifinals of the conference tournament.
Friesenhahn and Megan Aarhus were also named to their respective division’s First Team. Friesenhan was the ASC All-Conference selection at No. 1 singles and a first team All-Conference and East Division pick at No. 1 doubles with teammate Sydni Hermsdorf. Friesenhahn also doubled as the East’s freshman of the year. Megan Aarhus was a first team West Division selection at No. 1 doubles with Mallory Aarhus, who was the All-Conference selection at No. 2 singles.
Also appearing on the ASC All-Conference Team in singles were Texas-Tyler’s Jennifer Payne (No. 3), Brittany Trich (No. 4) and Morgan Wilkins (No. 5); and McMurry’s Autumn Petterson (No. 6).
