CLINTON, Miss. --- Mississippi College professor and "Voice of the Choctaws" Reid Vance has been voted 2012 winner of the American Southwest Conference Outstanding Media Service Award for his coverage of Mississippi College athletics, the ASC and NCAA Division III.
Vance was presented with his award, the 8th handed out in the history of the ASC, by MC Athletics Director Mike Jones at halftime of MC's men’s basketball game against LeTourneau University on Thursday (Jan. 31).
Reid is in his 14th year as "Voice of the Choctaws", taking control of all broadcast responsibilities with the MC Athletic Department. He helps to produce video broadcasts for all home football and basketball games, as well as, audio broadcasts for all football, basketball and baseball games.
"Reid has been a tremendous asset to our department in his time here," MC Athletics Director Mike Jones said. "He has taken on a larger role over the past several years, and it has showed in our improved broadcasts."
"He has been an absolute saving grace for me," MC Sports Information Director David Nichols said. "I really don't know what I would do without his expertise and knowledge. A lot of what our department does well predicates on Reid's outstanding work."
Vance is a graduate of Mississippi College with both a Bachelor and Master's in Communication. He is currently an instructor in the communications department at MC. The Canton, Miss. native lives in Clinton with his wife, Cheli.
The ASC Outstanding Media Service Award has been presented annually since 2003 to recognize outstanding coverage of a member institution, the conference as a whole and NCAA Division III athletics. The award is voted on by ASC Sports Information Directors. Previous winners include:
