All-Time Winners
RICHARDSON, Texas –– Seven American Southwest Conference members were selected as the spring 2014 recipients of the Team Sportsmanship Awards by vote of the 12 ASC Student Athlete Advisory Committees the conference office announced, Monday (May 19).
The award, in its seventh academic year, honors the member institution in each ASC championship sport that best displays positive qualities of sportsmanship and fair play from its student-athletes, coaches and fans throughout the season. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) from each of the conference's 12 member institutions votes on the recipients.
LeTourneau led all conference members with three SAAC Team Sportsmanship awards. The LeTourneau men’s golf team received their second award and first since a co-honors in 2009 (Schreiner). LeTourneau swept the men’s and women’s tennis awards. The LETU men’s team receives their third (2012, 2010) and the women’s team takes home their third consecutive award (2013, 2012).
In track and field, the Texas-Tyler men’s team receives their third award in four years (2012, 2011) and the Hardin-Simmons women’s team take home their second award and first since the inaugural award in 2009.
In baseball, Howard Payne and Ozarks were named Co-Team SAAC winners. HPU receives its second award (2011) and Ozarks collects its second award in three years (2012).
East Texas Baptist was named the SAAC team winner for the third time in softball (2011, 2010) and the Louisiana College women’s golf team receives its first award.
The next ASC SAAC Team Sportsmanship Awards will be named after the 2014 fall season.
