Eight Members Honored with SAAC Team Sportsmanship Awards

All-Time Winners

RICHARDSON, Texas - Eight American Southwest Conference member institutions were recognized by the 13 conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committees as recipients of ASC-SAAC Team Sportsmanship awards for the fall 2015 sport seasons.

The SAAC Team Sportsmanship award honors the member institution in each ASC championship sport that best displays positive qualities of sportsmanship and fair play from its student-athletes, coaches and fans throughout the season. The fall 2015 awards are presented in men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball with each of the 13 campus SAACs voting within the sports it sponsors.

LeTourneau University was recognized in men's soccer and volleyball East Division, and shared the 2015 award in men's cross country with East Texas Baptist University. This is the second men's soccer (2007, '15) and third volleyball (2007, '14, '15) awards for LeTourneau who also claimed its first citation in men's cross country.

In addition to its men's cross country co-award, East Texas Baptist was also a tri-recipient in women's cross country and a co-recipient in women's soccer. It is the second consecutive men's cross country award and third consecutive women's cross country citation. The 2015 women's soccer award is the Tigers' second overall (2009, '15).

Concordia University Texas shared the women's soccer award with East Texas Baptist while McMurry University and the University of Texas at Dallas shared women's cross country honors with ETBU. This is the second SAAC Team Sportsmanship award in women's soccer for Concordia Texas (2008, '15). McMurry claims its second women's cross country award (2008, '15) while UT Dallas is recognized for the first time in women's cross country.

Louisiana College was honored for a second straight season in football while the volleyball West Division award was shared by University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Sul Ross State University. UMHB collected an all-time third SAAC Team Sportsmanship award in volleyball (2009, '12 and '15) while Sul Ross State earned its first volleyball honor.

The ASC SAAC Team Sportsmanship award is presented for the ninth year during the 2015-16 sport seasons. The winter sports award will be announced following completion of the men's and women's basketball championships.
