RICHARDSON, Texas – UT Dallas posted a 8-1-2 record in league play to win the regular season title, No. 1 seeding and the right to host the semifinals and finals of the 2019 American Southwest Conference Men’s Soccer Championship Tournament which begins Tuesday, November 5.
The bracket for the eight-team single-elimination ASC championship tournament was announced Friday following completion of conference play.
The 2019 ASC Championship is an eight-team field with the top four seeds - No. 1 UT Dallas, No. 2 Concordia Texas, No. 3 Mary Hardin-Baylor and No. 4 Hardin-Simmons - hosting quarterfinal matches on Tuesday, November 5. The quarterfinal winners advance to the semifinals hosted by UT Dallas in Richardson, Texas on Friday, November 8. The conference championship match is scheduled Sunday, November 10.
The top-seeded Comets (14-3-2, 8-1-2 ASC) are making their 19th appearance and 10th in a row in the ASC Championship. They will host No. 8 LeTourneau (7-9-2, 5-6 ASC), who is making its sixth trip overall and sixth consecutive trip to the tournament.
Concordia Texas (9-5-4, 7-1-3 ASC), reaching the tournament for the fifth straight year, takes on No. 7 Belhaven (11-5-1, 5-5-1 ASC), who qualified for the Championship for the first time after becoming a full NCAA Division III member.
Two-time defending champion Mary Hardin-Baylor (10-5-2, 7-3-1 ASC), making its 13th appearance in sixth in a row, will take on No. 6 East Texas Baptist (7-10, 6-5 ASC) who is joining the tournament field for the fourth time and second in a row.
The final quarterfinal matchup will see Hardin-Simmons (14-3-1, 7-3-1 ASC) hosting No. 5 Ozarks (11-5-1, 7-4 ASC). The Cowboys will be making their league-leading 21st trip to the tournament, while the Eagles are advancing for the 17th time overall and seventh year in a row.
Hardin-Simmons leads the field with 10 total tiles (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2013, 2014). UT Dallas has four overall (2004, 2007, 2015, 2016), while UMHB has won the last two (2017, 2018). Ozarks also has one championship to their credit (2003).
The 2019 ASC Men’s Championship Soccer Tournament is the 22nd in league history. The winner of the ASC Championship Tournament is declared the conference champion and earns automatic qualification to the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship.
