RICHARDSON, Texas - UT Dallas captured the 2019 American Southwest Conference Volleyball Championship on its home court Saturday, defeating Mary Hardin-Baylor in four sets at the UTD Activity Center Saturday. The Comets won the match 20-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-22. 

UTD also won the ASC Championship in 2008, 2009, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Under head coach Marci Allison, UT Dallas won the ASC East Divsion and now the ASC Championship and have a 24-4 record headed into the NCAA Division IIII Volleyball Championship.

For the match, UTD hit .232 with 67 kills, six aces, 89 digs and four blocks. The Cru (24-8) hit .232 with 56 kills, one ace, nine blocks and 97 digs.

Tournament MVP Jillian Via led the Comets with 13 kills and 21 digs. Allsion Owen also had 13 kills and Lauren Schilling connected on 11 kills with three blocks. Freshman Catherine Croft added 11 kills, while Madison Ball recorded 21 digs. Abby Jones came up with 16 digs, while Caroline Shecterle assisted 31 kills and Sydney Fitt had 20. Schilling and Shecterle made the All-Tournament Team.

Corinne Novak hit .474 with 14 kills and 17 digs. All-Tournament selection Sarah Paolini had 11 kills and five blocks, while Jenna Gillean added 12 kills and 20 digs. Kayla Janikula, who also made the All-Tournament Team, hit .474 with nine kills and four blocks. Cory Jo Martin recorded 22 assists and 22 digs, while Miranda Klein had 26 assists, four blocks and 14 digs.

Saturday was the sixth consecutive year that UMHB and UTD met in the ASC Championship Finals.

UT Dallas earned the ASC's automatic qualifer to the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament. They will find out where they will play during the NCAA Selection Show Monday, November 11 at 11:30 a.m. at www.ncaa.com/live.
