All-Time SAAC Team Sportsmanship Award Recipients
RICHARDSON, Texas ––
Howard Payne, LeTourneau, UT Dallas, East Texas Baptist, Ozarks and
Concordia Texas were named recipients of the American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Team Sportsmanship Awards for the 2019-20 winter sports season, the conference office announced on Thursday, March 5.
In women's basketball, Concordia Texas was named the West Division award recipient while East Texas Baptist and Ozarks were selected as the Co-East Division honorees. Men's basketball award winners were LeTourneau and UT Dallas in the East Division and Howard Payne in the West Division.
The SAAC Team Sportsmanship Award honors the member institution in each ASC championship sport that best displays positive qualities of sportsmanship and fair play from its student-athletes, coaches and fans throughout the season. The 2019-20 year marks the 13th season the award has been presented by vote of the campus Student-Athlete Advisory Committees of the American Southwest Conference.
The Tornados claimed their third SAAC Team Sportsmanship Award in women’s basketball this season. Concordia has also won the award in 2009 and ’12.
ETBU was voted to its third honor in the East Division, having also won in 2011 and ’17. Ozarks won the award for the fourth time, also earning the honors in 2010, ’12 and ’16.
Howard Payne has been selected as the men's basketball SAAC Team Sportsmanship Award recipient seven times total (2008, '10, '11, '15, '18, ‘19), tying the record for the most awards in any sport. ASC Champion LeTourneau has six times been named the men's basketball honoree (2009, '15, '17, '18, ‘19), while UTD earns its third award (2012, ’14).
The next SAAC Team Sportsmanship Awards will be named after the 2020 spring seasons.
