RICHARDSON, Texas – Sul Ross State senior middle blocker/setter
Annika Canaba was named the 2021 Most Valuable Player to highlight the 2021 American Southwest Conference volleyball awards.
Canaba, who was the 2020-21 West Division MVP, averaged 3.94 kills, 4.33 assists and 2.41 digs per set while hitting .345. She also posted 39 blocks and 36 aces with eight triple-double performances.
Mary Hardin-Baylor junior
Alli Pierce was named the Setter of the Year after averaging 9.54 assists per set and recording 725 assists for the regular season champion Cru.
Hardin-Simmons freshman
Cali Carter earned Libero of the Year honors after leading the league with 5.66 digs per set. Outside hitter
Avery Reid from East Texas Baptist took Freshman of the Year honors after hitting .234 with 3.38 kills, 2.65 digs and 0.43 blocks per set.
Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year went to Concordia Texas senior setter
Alyssa Legette.
Troy Canaba, Kailee Wilkins and
Autumn Kilpatrick of Sul Ross State were named the Coaching Staff of the Year. Canaba and company guided the Lobos to a 14-9 overall record and the program’s first trip to the ASC Championship Tournament since 2006.
