BELTON, Texas - Concordia Texas captured the American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Championship for the first time in program history after prevailing in penalty kicks 4-3, after a 1-1, double-overtime tie with Hardin-Simmons at Cru Soccer Field Sunday.
The Tornados (10-4-5) also earned the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship.
The Cowboys (9-6-3) struck first when Jakob Fiol avoided a defender in the box and found Jacob Barnwell to his left, who knocked it in the net in the 24th minute.
Concordia's Melvin Molina tied the game in the 66th minute.

Tornado keeper Joshua Redding posted five saves, while Reid Applewhite had eight for the Cowboys.
Both teams changed keepers for the shootout, with Trent Ivy in goal for HSU and Arlen Oni for the Tornados.
Each team was successful on their first two attempts, but HSU missed high in the third round, while Molina knocked in his to give CTX a 3-2 lead. Austin Wills for HSU placed the ball in the net to start round followed by a successful attempt for Concordia's Victor Gomez. The final shot for the Cowboys was stopped by Oni to secure the Tornados' first title.
Concordia forward Marco Vasquez was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
