RICHARDSON, Texas – Mary Hardin-Baylor senior quarterback Kyle King and Mary Hardin-Baylor senior defensive end Sante Parker, Jr. were named Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively, to headline the 2022 American Southwest Conference football awards, the ASC office announced Thursday after a vote of the league's head coaches.
King, a three-time All-Conference selection, threw for a conference-best 31 touchdowns and had the highest efficiency in the league with a 178.9-clip. He was 184 for 274 in passing for 2500 yards (65 long) and the fewest interceptions with three.
Parker, Jr., who was also named Defensive Lineman of the Year, earned a place on the All-Conference First Team Defense. He tied for the league-lead in tackles for loss with 15.5 total and 1.55 average per game. He totaled 20 tackles (11 solo) and 8.5 sacks for 57 yards, and forced a fumble.
Mary Hardin-Baylor offensive lineman Ethan Ruckman, was selected to his third All-Conference award, was voted Offensive Lineman of the Year. He helped the 2022 ASC champions total 4,698 total yards, including rushing for 2,189 yards with 32 passing and 22 rushing touchdowns.
Mary Hardin-Baylor senior K.J. Miller was named Special Teams Player of the Year for a third straight year. A four-time All-Conference selection, Miller led the ASC in punt return yardage (223) and posted the league's longest punt return for 64 yards. Miller totaled 216 yards on kick returns with a long of 42 yards.
Southwestern wide receiver JoJo Wilson was selected Freshman of the Year. He was eighth in the league in total reception yards with 682 yards and ranked second in the ASC with 59 receptions, four going for touchdowns. Wilson's longest catch was 51 yards and he averaged 11.2 yards per catch.
Mary Hardin-Baylor Head Coach Larry Harmon was voted Coach of the Year. In his first season, Harmon guided the Cru to a 9-1 record and unbeaten mark in conference play en route to the team's 18th ASC title and an automatic berth in the Division III playoffs.
Forty-eight players made a return appearance to the all-conference team, including six four-time selections – Miller; Hardin-Simmons wide receiver Kevi Evans, linebacker Matt Mitchell, center Elias Berkel, and linebacker Terrell Franklin; and East Texas Baptist graduate student center Corey Stang.
Each ASC team is represented on the Outstanding Sportsmanship Team of the Year, including three-time honoree Reagan Sullivan from McMurry.
