No. 1 Mary Hardin-Baylor and No. 6 LeTourneau advance to Championship

AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 1 seed Mary Hardin-Baylor defeated the No. 4 seed UT Dallas, 5-1, on Thursday in the 2022 ASC Men’s Soccer Semifinal. The Cru were in control throughout, racing out to a 3-0 halftime lead. Ethan Dacaret had two goals, with his pair building a 4-0 edge. Patrick Roach, added a goal and two assists to also give him four points. UT Dallas Brandon Buchanan got the Comets on the board in the 73rd minute.
 
The Cru improved to 12-10-4 in ASC Tournament games and are returning to their first ASC Championship since 2018, when they won 1-0 over UTD. UMHB improved to 12-2-2 overall.
 
The Comets did earn their 20th win of the conference tournament with their 2-1 win over Ozarks on Tuesday night. UT Dallas ends the campaign with a 9-6-4 record after winning three straight prior to its elimination. 
The No. 6 seed LeTourneau kept its magical run going with another advancement on penalty kicks, this time outlasting the No. 2 seed Concordia Texas on Thursday afternoon at host site St. Edwards. For the second time in a row in this tournament, the YellowJackets found a second half equalizer and were able to move on thanks to penalty kicks.
 
Concordia Texas got on the board in the 10th minute on a goal by Theo Givens with an assist coming from Gustavo Hernandez. LeTourneau’s Russell Gray found the back of the next in the 86th minute and it would remain knotted at 1-1 through both overtimes. LeTourneau had missed the third penalty kick attempt, but Concordia Texas missed on the fourth and sixth rounds to send the YellowJackets to their second ASC Championship. Their other appearance was 1998.
 
LeTourneau ended the regular season by winning three in a row, sneaking into the tournament on the final day of the regular season and improved to 7-6-6 overall. This is the third straight tournament game the YellowJackets have tied. They fell in kicks in 2021. Concordia Texas moved to 10-3-4 on the season.
