Givens and Sanchez Player of the Year Honors Headline Men's Soccer Awards

RICHARDSON, Texas – On Wednesday, the American Southwest Conference Men’s Soccer postseason awards and all-conference teams were announced. By selection of the league’s head coaches Concordia junior forward Theo Givens earned Offensive Player of the Year. His teammate Yael Sanchez, who is a junior defender, was the Defensive Player of the Year.

Givens was atop of the conference with 1.53 points per game and totaled 23 thanks to 10 goals and three assists. He tied second in the league in goals and had three game winners. Sanchez helped lead a team to the lowest goals-against average per game with a 1.219-clip. The Tornados tied the fewest goals allowed (21) with Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Concordia Texas had a third player in the top individual awards with sophomore midfielder Melvin Molina as Midfielder of the Year. He led the conference in assists with 13.

LeTourneau junior goalkeeper Raul Torrez was named Goalkeeper of the Year. He allowed the fewest goals (19) in fourteen matches and posted four shutouts.

Ozarks midfielder Francisco Horta was selected Offensive Freshman of the Year. He knocked in eight goals but had a league-best five game-winning goals. Ozarks had another freshman award recipient, as midfielder Nathan Wagner was Defensive Freshman of the Year.

Sul Ross State senior Mauricio Perez was named Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year. LeTourneau head coach Brady Van Holland was selected Coach of the Year. His YellowJackets won the final three matches of the regular season to capture the sixth seed and were the runners-up after consecutive tournament games of advancing on penalty kicks.
