Sceggel Named LeTourneau Vice President and Athletics Director

LONGVIEW, Texas - LeTourneau University President Dr. Steven D. Mason announced the selection of Dr. Tim Sceggel, current Athletics Director at Covenant College, as LETU Vice President and Director of Athletics Monday.

"Dr. Tim Sceggel's successful track record fostering winning programs at the DIII level will bring strength to our efforts to advance the impact of Yellowjacket Athletics at LeTourneau University," Mason said. "His commitment to student formation and the integration of faith and sport will help catalyze our devotion for Christian discipleship through our work."

For the last 15 years he has served in athletic administration at Covenant College, a sister CCCU school; the past six as Athletics Director. He also served as chair of the Health, Wellness, and Coaching Department at Covenant College, and taught regularly in the MA in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership program at Messiah College.

"These last 15 years on the mountian have been a phenomenal gift," Sceggel said. "I don't think I could have ever imagined how richly God would bless our efforts in athletics, especially in the last six years. However, I am thrilled to be called to serve our King in a different context, and eager to join the gospel centered work that is taking place at LeTourneau as we seek to cultivate disciples and pursue excellence in intercollegiate athletics."

During his time as Athletics Director Covenant captured 17 USA South championships, four All-Americans, five USA South Coach of the Year Awards, five USA South Players of the Year, three USA South Sportsmanship Trophies, 384 selections to USA South All-Academic teams and the highest department GPA in the NCAA era (3.35, Spring 2020).

Dr. Sceggel has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Covenant College, a Master of Science in Sports Administration from the University of Louisville, and a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of Alabama. His doctoral dissertation was "Exploring Student Experiences of Faith Development Through Intercollegiate Athletic Participation."
