RICHARDSON, Texas – Mary Hardin-Baylor senior
Malek Bolin claimed Player of the Year, while East Texas Baptist junior starter
Sayers Collins was the Pitcher of the Year to highlight the 2022 American Southwest Conference baseball awards and all-conference teams as selected by vote of the coaches.
Bolin, a first baseman, hit .349 with 42 runs, 61 hits, eight doubles, two triples, 15 home runs and eight stolen bases. He also drove in 55 RBI with a .674 slugging percentage and drew 19 walks.
Collins went 11-2 for the Tigers, with a 2.55 ERA, four shutouts and an ASC record 121 strikeouts. He limited batters to a .162 average over 88.1 innings.

Corey Ballew and UMHB starter
James McGlumphy shared Freshman of the Year honors. Ballew hit .293 with 44 hits, 25 runs scored, 15 doubles, four home runs and 30 RBI while going 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA, five strikeouts over 11.2 innings on the mound. McGlumphy was 4-2 with a 3.39 ERA, one shutout and 62 strikeouts over 66.1 innings.

Brett Wagner was the Newcomer of the Year after batting .339 with 47 runs, 56 hits, 18 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, 46 RBI and 10 stolen bases for the regular season champion Tigers. LeTourneau sophomore
Devin Greaff was the Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year.
East Texas Baptist’s
Jared Hood and the Tigers shared Coaching Staff of the Year with McMurry’s
John Byington and the War Hawk staff. Hood earned the award for the third time, guiding the Tigers to a 33-13 record and a regular season title. Byington improved the War Hawks from 9-24 in 2021 to 24-18 this season with a fourth-place finish in conference.
