Peden, Singleton Awarded Inaugural ASC Man & Woman of the Year

RICHARDSON, Texas --- Two Class of 2022 graduates have been named recipients of the inaugural American Southwest Conference Man and Woman of the Year awards, Price Peden of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and Taylor Singleton of East Texas Baptist University.
 
The new annual conference awards, ASC Man and Woman of the Year honors is presented to a graduating student-athlete who has distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate career in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, community and campus service, and leadership. Selected by the Council of Senior Woman Administrators, the Man and Woman of the Year awards are among the highest individual honors presented to a student in the Conference.
 
Peden (Flower Mound, Texas) graduated magna cum laude in May 2022 with a degree in finance, earning Provost and Dean's Honor Roll honors in addition to ASC Academic All-Conference citations. Peden served numerous campus and community organizations, including Love for Christ Food Pantry, Temple Baptist Church, local middle school student mentorship, and the UMHB Easter Pageant, Soccer Kids' Camps, and Champs Day events. He assisted the University's Advancement and Development Office as a member of the UMHB Student Foundation.
 
On the soccer field, Peden played both defender and forward positions as the Cru claimed ASC championship (2018) and regular-season (2021) titles and advanced to NCAA tournament second round (2018). He was a member of the Cru Men's Soccer Leadership Team.
 
Peden was also named the 2021-22 ASC Community Service Men's Athlete of the Year.
 
Singleton (Friendswood, Texas) graduated in May 2022 with a bachelor's degree in biology and a chemistry minor. She was named to the ETBU President's List and ASC Academic All-Conference in each of her four years, garnering CoSIDA Academic All-District basketball honors in 2022. Singleton volunteered with campus and community groups for Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief along with helping residents at Oaklawn Nursing Facility, Boys and Girls Club of Marshall, and students at two local elementary schools. Singleton was a member of Xi Iota Chapter of Gamma Sigma Epsilon.
 
A four-year starter for the ETBU women's basketball team, Singleton was a two-time conference Defensive Player of the Year and All-Conference First Team selection. In both the 2021-22 and 2018-19 seasons, she led the conference in steals, three times claiming a spot on the All-Defensive Team. During her career, ETBU posted an 89-18 record and advanced to the second round of the 2022 Division III tournament. She served as team captain her senior season.
 
In addition to her ASC Woman of the Year award, Singleton is the conference nominee for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year award.
 
Both Peden and Singleton advance as the ASC nominees for the region and national Division III Man and Woman of the Year awards to be selected by the Division III Commissioners Association.
