DALLAS – American Southwest Conference football returns starting on Thursday, August 31, with two matchups featuring McMurry at Birmingham-Southern and East Texas Baptist at Louisiana Christian. Hardin-Simmons plays its home opener versus Albright on Friday, September 1 at 7 p.m. The rest of the league opens its campaigns on Saturday, Sept. 2.

2023 ASC Schedule
PRESEASON BUZZ
Mary Hardin-Baylor was selected to win 2023 ASC Football Title, as the No. 3 ranked team by D3football.com picked up 97 points and 13 first-place votes. Hardin-Simmons snatched the other first-place selection and had 83 points. The Cowboys are No. 8 in D3football.com’s preseason rankings. Howard Payne, who checked in third with 67 points, are receiving votes to give the league three teams to keep an eye on nationally before first kickoff.
 
Howard Payne senior quarterback Landon McKinney was 2023 ASC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Mary Hardin-Baylor had a pair earn honors with junior linebacker Durand Hill as Defensive Player of the Year and junior return specialist Matthew Jackson was Special Teams Player of the Year.
 
UMHB’s senior tight end Ethan Ruckman and Hill were on the 2023 D3football.com Preseason All-America Team. This week, Hardin-Simmons senior quarterback Gaylon Glynn was the team’s nominee for 2023 Campbell Trophy.
 
The league also released Players to Watch in 2023.

Mary Hardin-Baylor won its 18th ASC Regular Season title, posting a 12-2 record with an unbeaten 8-0 conference record. The Cru reached the NCAA Division III Championships Semifinals. Hardin-Simmons gave the league two teams in the national tournament after going 9-2 overall with a 7-1 record.
