VB | Tigers close season in NCAA Second Round

NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia – The East Texas Baptist Volleyball Team closed their historic 2024 season in the NCAA Second Round with a 3-1 loss against Christopher Newport in Newport News on Friday, November 22nd.

The Tigers opened the match 7-1, holding the lead before the Captains knotted it up 20-20. CNU used a 4-2 run to earn the first set win 25-23. The Captains stayed in control of the match through the second set, cruising to a 25-15 victory.

ETBU fought back in the third set, staying within three points until the Tigers used a five-point run to go up 13-10. The set then saw four tied scores before another four-pint Tiger run gave them a 20-17 advantage. ETBU did not let up, forcing a fourth set with a 25-22 win.

The Tigers used a 5-2 run early in the fourth set to go up 11-7. The Captains then scored eight unanswered points before ETBU answered with a 7-1 run to take back the lead. The final set played point-for-point after that, with a final three-point run to give CNU the 28-26 win.

ETBU closed their season with a 29-2 overall record after going undefeated in ASC action. The Tigers also earned the ASC Champion title for the second consecutive season.
