Holland, Kiser Headline 2024 ASC Women's Basketball Awards

DALLAS – Hardin-Simmons senior guard Paris Kiser and McMurry junior guard Emily Holland were named Co-Players of the Year in a vote by American Southwest Conference women’s basketball head coaches to headline the 2024 ASC women’s Basketball awards and all-conference teams announced Tuesday (February 27).
 
Kiser claimed her first Player of the Year accolade after guiding the Cowgirls to the 2024 ASC Women’s Basketball Championship (8th) and regular season title.She finished on the 2024 ASC All-Tournament Team. Kiser led the league in total points scored with 524 and tied for second in points-per-game with 19.4. She leads the league in made field goals (173), finished second in made three-pointers (54), and was fourth in free throws (124).
 
Holland also claimed a share of Player of the Year for the first time. She matched Kiser in scoring average with 19.4 points-per-game and finished second to her in total points with 504. She led the conference in three-pointers (78) and total minutes (962; 37.0 avg.). Holland also is top 10 in assists (74) and steals (51). Holland also earned ASC Offensive Player of the Year in women’s soccer and led the conference in points and goals for the 2023 campaign.
 
East Texas Baptist guard Kadia Ward and Hardin-Simmons guard Madison Williams earned Co-Freshman of the Year. Ward was top 10 in the conference in rebounding with 173 (6.4 per game) and steals with 47 (1.7 avg.) Williams averaged 9.9 points and led the Cowgirls in steals with 45 while playing a reserve role.
 
Ozarks junior forward Naomi Smith was named Newcomer of the Year. She finished second in the conference in rebounding, totaling 229 and averaging 10 per contest. She also tied fourth in assists per game with a 2.9-clip.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor junior guard Arieona Rosborough was Defensive Player of the Year. She was named to the 2024 ASC All-Tournament Team. She was the only player on the All-Defensive Team with multiple selections (2). Rosborough finished third in the conference in points (449) and led in points-per-game (19.5). She was 11th in rebounding average (6.2), fifth in steals (49), and tied fourth in steals per game with a 2.1-clip.
 
UT Dallas senior guard Blythe Williams was Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year and is on the All-Defensive Team.
 
McMurry Head Coach Drew Long was named ASC Coach of the Year after guiding the War Hawks to a 16-10 record and 10-6 conference record for the fourth seed. In his third season, Coach Long has turned a program from three wins in his first year as an interim, to a .500 team that missed the conference tournament in 2022-23, to a team that ranked near the top of the league standings most of the year and was one-of-four double-digit conference winners. Coach Long’s squad ranked third in offense, averaging 74.5 points.
 
Nine student-athletes that were named to an All-Conference team were repeat selections, including a quartet that earned three-time appearances. The five players named to First Team: Holland, Kiser, Rosborough, Kiser, Holland, Hardin-Simmons senior Parris Parmer, and Sul Ross State junior forward Marley Rokas were the same unit to be named in 2023.
