OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Paul Woodard, RB, Jr., East Texas Baptist
East Texas Baptist junior running back Paul Woodard (Freeport, Texas) had his third straight 100+ yard rushing game with 153 total, earning more than 100 yards in the first half. He had two rushes of more than 30 yards and scored the first touchdown of the game for a 7-0 lead. He averaged 8.0 yards per rush in the game in the first half was over 10 yards per rush.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kade Sink, LB, So., Hardin-Simmons
Hardin-Simmons sophomore linebacker Kade Sink (Houston, Texas) had 15 tackles, three tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and forced a fumble in the Cowboys win over Louisiana Christian. The Cowboys held the Wildcats to 3.8 yards per play in the game.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kaden Turner, P, So., Hardin-Simmons
Hardin-Simmons sophomore punter Kaden Turner (San Antonio, Texas) had seven punts in the game and averaged 46.4 yards per kick. He had a long of 65 and five of his seven punts were downed inside the 20-yard line. Turner also threw a two-point conversion pass in the Cowboy’s win.
OTHER OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES
Offensive
Hardin-Simmons senior quarterback Kyle Brown (Cedar Park, Texas) completed 21-of-33 passes for 259 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions in the 52-17 win over Louisiana Christian. He had touchdowns to four different recevers, covering 53, 33, 13 and 7 yards.
Defensive
East Texas Baptist senior defensive end Dominick Williams (Houston, Texas) had another dominant performance on the defensive line with six tackles and 2.5 sacks. He posted two sacks in the first half with one coming late int he first quarter. With the game tied at 7-7 and on ETBU's 29-yard line, Williams sacked the QB on a 4th-and-9 to give the ball back to ETBU. His second sack came at 6:07 on a 1st-and-10 putting the ball back on the Centenary 11-yard line for 2nd-and-17. That lead to a punt safety on the series two plays later. Williams now has 7.5 sacks on the season.
Special Teams
East Texas Baptist senior defensive back Nieman Sullen (Lake Charles, Louisiana) picked up the blocked extra point in the 2nd quarter after Centenary took the lead, 13-10, returning it 97-yards for two points. The two points cut Centenary's lead to one, 13-12, instead of the Gents having a 14-10 lead. Those two points gave the momentum back to ETBU as the Tigers scored on the next drive for a 20-13 lead converting their own 2-point conversion.
