PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Jacqueline Berry, G, So., Hardin-Simmons
Hardin-Simmons sophomore guard Jacqueline Berry has been named the Week 14 American Southwest Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the fifth time this season after a dominant finish to the regular season. In a key matchup to secure control of the ASC standings, Berry delivered a career performance with a 20-point, 16-rebound double-double in a six-point win over Mary Hardin-Baylor. She logged 39 minutes and shot 50 percent from the floor in the victory.
Berry followed that performance with a win at East Texas Baptist, adding six assists and five rebounds to help the Cowgirls close out the regular season strong.
Hardin-Simmons enters the ASC Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament with Berry leading the conference in scoring at 15.0 points per game. The Cowgirls secured the No. 1 seed and will open semifinal play Friday at 2:30 p.m. against No. 4 seed Mary Hardin-Baylor.
OTHER OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES
Caitlyn Parsons of Howard Payne delivered an efficient performance in HPU’s lone game of the week. Parsons shot 9-13 from the field for 22 points and finished one rebound shy of a double-double. She closed the regular season second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.0 points per game.
Josie Bruder totaled 25 points last week, including an 18-point performance in a win over Howard Payne to close the Cru’s regular-season schedule. Bruder was previously named ASC Player of the Week in January and enters the conference tournament averaging 11.6 points per game, the fourth highest of ASC women's basketball players.
Hannah Ayala of East Texas Baptist recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 13 rebounds and 10 points against HSU. She shot 50 percent from the field and added one block and one steal. The performance marked her 15th game this season with 10 or more rebounds.
