Whitney, Texas – Despite rainy and chilly conditions at White Bluff Resort in Whitney, Texas, competitors battled through the opening round of the 2026 American Southwest Conference Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships on Friday, setting the stage for a competitive weekend on the course.
Women Round One
After the opening round of the 2026 ASC Women’s Golf Championship, Mary Hardin-Baylor sits atop the team leaderboard with a 313 (+25), holding a narrow two-stroke lead over UC Santa Cruz at 315 (+27). Hardin-Simmons is in third at 335 (+47), followed by East Texas Baptist in fourth at 352 (+64). Individually, UC Santa Cruz’s Samantha Shaw and Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Brooke Norman are tied for first after each carded a 76 (+4). UMHB’s Julia Sosa is in third with a 77 (+5), while Shelly Areepitak sits in fourth place heading into Saturday’s second round.
The women will tee off Saturday, May 2nd with at 11:30 a.m.
Men Round One
Mary Hardin-Baylor leads after the opening round of the 2026 ASC Men’s Golf Championship at White Bluff Resort in Whitney, Texas. The Cru posted a 289 (+1) to sit atop the team standings, followed by Hardin-Simmons in second at 316 (+28). Howard Payne ranks third with a 327 (+39), and East Texas Baptist is fourth at 328 (+40).
Individually, UMHB occupies the top of the leaderboard with Colton O’Dell and Cole MacMillan tied for first at 287 (-1), Cade Barone in third at 289 (+1), Evan Acevedo in fourth at 290 (+2), Carter Demske in fifth at 291 (+3), and Lucas Latimer in sixth at 293 (+5). The Cru returns to action on Saturday, May 2 with an 8:30 a.m. tee time.
