Men's Tournament | Women's Tournament
The Mississippi College men's basketball team won its second straight ASC Championship by winning the inaugural ASC Men's Basketball Tournament with a 69-54 win over Austin College this past Saturday. The Choctaws hosted the 1999 tournament by winning the East Division.
Mississippi College advanced to Saturday's championship game with an 89-54 win over the West Division's No. 2 seed Howard Payne University. Howard Payne earned the tournament spot by winning a coin toss it forced with a win over Hardin-Simmons in the regular season's final game. Austin College advanced to the final by upsetting the West Division's No. 1 seed McMurry University 95-93. The Kangaroos got a buzzer beater from senior guard Christian Morgia for the game winner. McMurry finishes its season at 22-3, while Austin College closes the 1998-99 campaign at 14-12. Howard Payne finishes at 5-20.
Mississippi College has earned a first-round bye in the NCAA Division II Tournament and will host the winner of Maryville (Tenn.) 21-4 and Rose Hulman (Ind.) 20-5 Saturday, March 6.

wins 1999 ASC Tournament
first outright
conference champion in three years
The Hardin-Simmons University women's basketball became the first outright ASC Champion in three years when they defeated cross-town rivals McMurry University in Saturday's Championship Game of the inaugural ASC Women's Basketball Tournament. Hardin-Simmons hosted the tournament by winning the West Division Regular Season Title.
Hardin-Simmons, the West Division No. 1 seed, advanced to Saturday's finals by defeating Mississippi College, the East Division's No. 2 seed. The Choctaw finished in a three-way tie for the ASC Title in 1997-98. In Friday's other semifinal, McMurry -- the West Division No. 2 seed -- upset East Division Champion and No. 1 East Seed Austin College -- setting up a third meeting between to the two Abilene based schools.
Hardin-Simmons has earned a bye to the second round of this year's NCAA Division III South Regional Tournament and will host the winner of Bridgewater (Va.) 22-5 and North Caroline Wesleyan 18-9. Austin College will play at Randolph Macon 23-4 Wednesday night in first round action in Ashland, Va.
