Women's basketball announces post-season awards
All-Conference, All-Division, individual honors selected

RICHARDSON, Texas – The 1998-99 Women’s Basketball All-Conference and All-Division teams have been selected after a vote taken by conference basketball coaches. Austin College’s Marisa Hesse and Hardin-Simmons’ Kathryn Otwell, the East and West Division Players of the Year respectively, headline an All-Conference team loaded with four of the top five scoring leaders. Hesse, a senior guard from Levelland, Texas, is second among conference scoring leaders with 20.7 points per game, and Otwell, a junior guard from Deleon, Texas, is 4th in scoring (18.5 points per game) and 3rd in steals with 3.04 per game. Sul Ross State University’s Natalie Whitewood, a junior forward from Harper, Texas, leads the ASC in scoring with 22.4 points per game and Austin College’s Rachel McNamara is fifth in scoring with 15.9 points per game. Rounding out the All-Conference team is Mississippi College senior foward Tina Herron. Herron is 10th in scoring with 13.3 points per game, 4th in rebounds (8.1 per game) and 3rd in field goal percentage at .556.

Players qualified for All-Conference recognition by being named to the First Team in their respective divisions. University of Dallas’ Delilah Whisenhunt and Mississippi College’s Tiffany Green also earned First Team East Division honors. In the West Division, Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Stephanie Baublit, McMurry’s Ogonna Merritt and Hardin-Simmon’ Kelly McClure round out the First Team.

Hesse and Otwell were named East and West Division Players of the Year. Merritt was also selected West Defensive Player of the Year and Green was named Defensive Player in the East Division. Freshman of the Year Awards went to University of Texas at Dallas’ Becky Fulin in the East Division, and Hardin-Simmons’ Amber Ward in the West Division. Austin College’s Robin Potera and Hardin-Simmons’ Julie Goodenough were named Coach of the Year in the East and West Divisions respectively.
