Kiser keeps Indians in check to overcome 14-0 deficit in title
game
RICHARDSON, Texas -- Senior quarterback Bill Poe led the Hardin-Simmons University Cowboys to the 1998 ASC Football Championship with a thrilling 30-24 overtime victory over cross-town rival McMurry University before a record crowd of 4,300 at Shelton Stadium. Poe has been named ASC Football Offensive Player of the Week for the week of November 14. The McKinney product finished his career in style Saturday, throwing for 326 yards and four touchdowns. He led a 17-point charge in the second quarter with touchdown passes of 39 and 21 yards as the Cowboys erased a 14-0 deficit. He later found Chance Sampson from 13 yards out that increased the lead to 24-14. In overtime, Poe's 9-yard touchdown pass to Jared Wood was the eventual game winner. Poe also rushed for 73 yards and produced 399 yards of total offense, ranking fourth best at Hardin-Simmons in a single game. For the season, Poe finished with 2,461 yards with 25 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. For his career, Poe threw for 45 touchdowns, tied for fourth all-time at Hardin-Simmons, and 5,372 yards, second most at the school.
Senior defensive end Dustin Kiser had another impressive game for Hardin-Simmons, helping stop McMurry and bringing the Cowboys back from a 14-0 deficit to win the 1998 ASC Football Championship. Kiser recorded nine tackles and one assist, including three sacks for a loss of 25 yards to be named ASC Football Defensive Player of the Week. The Munday, Texas, native also had three tackles for losses of 16 yards. Kiser ended the season with a team-high eight sacks (minus 70 yards) and a total of 20 tackles for losses of 114 yards. He also had a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and an interception and knocked down three passes.
