David Hoffman
Men's Soccer Coach
Coach David Hoffmann is entering his second year coaching Men and Women's Soccer at Schreiner College. The men's program finished with a 9-7 mark, the first winning season in Schreiner soccer history. The women's program, consisting of walk-on players, completed its inaugaral season winless on the field, but made great strides.
Prior to his arriaval at Schreiner, Hoffmann directed the Providence High School and Antonian College Preparatory women's teams to their respective state championship games. Hoffmann entered the coaching ranks full time after his graduation from St Mary's University in 1996, where he was a captain and four year starter. (top of page)
After recording Schreiners first winning season in school history in 1997, this years team and Coach David Hoffman are looking toward bigger and better things.
A big reason for Hoffmans optimism is the return of Aric Peterson for his final season at Schreiner.
Peterson holds most of Schreiners mens soccer records single-season and career and looks to add to those totals in 1998. He is Schreiners career goals leader and points, and in 1997, he set the single-season records for goals per game (1.0/game) and points per game (2.0/game). Peterson, who holds a 3.68 grade point average GPA) and was named an NAIA Soccer All-America Scholar-Athlete in 1997, has earned Heart of Texas All-Conference honors all three years at Schreiner.
Also returning for the Mountaineers is Arics twin brother, Brian, a team captain the last two years. Peterson garnered Heart of Texas All-Conference honors in 1997 at the outside back position, and started every game despite coming back from a knee injury which cut his 1996 season short. He was selected to the player pool for the Region IV Olympic Development program along with Aric.
Kiley Miller, Kyle Smith, Alejandro Lerma, Cody Brown and Scott Kamis, all returning starters, will shore up one of the strongest and most experienced teams in the ASC.
Along with teammates Lerma, and since-graduated Jacob Stephenson, Jeramy Keener and Thomas Olafson, Peterson also earned NAIA Soccer All-America Scholar-Athlete honors in 1997 and the mens soccer team finished the season with the highest cumulative GPA (3.2) among NAIA mens soccer teams in the nation.
One area of concern could be the loss of Stephenson at goalkeeper, a position he started for the past three seasons. Sophomore Phillip Smith will be counted upon to fill that void, a task Hoffman believes Smith is up to. (top of page)

Hoffmann entered the coaching ranks full time after his graduation from St Mary's University in 1996, where he was a captain and four year starter.
Throw of group of athletes together some with soccer experience and others with none whatsoever and youve got the 1997 Schreiner womens soccer team.
That was then. This is now.
One problem for Hoffman is the graduation of senior captain Krystal David who scored the Mountaineers lone goal last season.
Hoffman said, while shell be missed, he expects this years group of players to be more team-focused, which should create better results.
Returning for Schreiner is senior midfielder Mary Reyes, also team captain and the vice president of the senior class. Hoffman describes Reyes as a "exceptionally well-conditioned athlete," a trait necessary in the constant motion of soccer. He said he expects her to be in the thick of the action, both offensively and defensively.
Also expected to make an impact for Schreiner are senior midfielder Debbie Rathburn, junior forward Jennifer McKay, and junior midfielder Jessica Gonzales. Newcomers with a strong shot at breaking into the starting lineup include sophomore midfielder Julie Beasley, freshman midfielder Jane Pearson, freshman midfielder Jessica Pena, and freshman goalkeeper Ansta Parea.
