Schreiner sweeps West Division Player of the Week Honors
Richie Mercer, Vicki Hannasch selected for Mountaineers

RICHARDSON, Texas -- Schreiner College will host this year's ASC Tennis Post-Season Tournament by virtue of its men's team winning the West Division Championship in its first year of competition in the American Southwest Conference. The tournament will feature the top two teams from each division for men and women and will be cross seeded. Play begins Friday and will conclude with championship matches Saturday afternoon in Kerrville, Texas.

Schreiner freshman men's player Richie Mercer has been named ASC Men's Tennis West Division Player of the Week for the week of April 18 after winning all of his matches last week against Mary Hardin-Baylor and Trinity University. Mercer and doubles partner Jeremy Gutierrez defeated Trinity's ranked number two double teams, then defeated Mary Hardi-Baylor's No. 2 doubles team to end the year undefeated 10-0 overall, 5-0 against ASC opponents. Mercer also won at No. 3 singles against Mary Hardin-Baylor to finish the regular season 7-5, 5-0 in the ASC in singles competition.

The Mountaineers' Vicki Hannasch notched wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles against Mary Hardin-Baylor last week to be named ASC Women's Tennis West Division Player of the Week. With the victories, Hannasch finishes the regular season with a singles record of 9-4 overall, 4-0 in the ASC. And in doubles, her record finishes 8-2, 4-0 in the ASC.

There were no nominations submitted from the East Division this week.
