ASC TOURNAMENT CENTRAL!

RICHARDSON, Texas –– The University of Texas at Dallas capped off the first perfect regular season in league history and earned the right to host the 2009 American Southwest Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament, to be held Nov. 7-8 at UTD Activity Center in Richardson, Texas.

The entire six-team, single-elimination event will be available for fans through live statistics, while Friday's semifinal matches and Saturday’s championship match will also have live audio. All links can be found on the “Tournament Central” page on the conference’s website.

Head coach Marci Sanders’ Comets (23-0), which went 17-0 against conference opponents and are the only unbeaten volleyball team in NCAA Division III, will receive a first-round bye as the East Division champion. UTD has won four straight division crowns and also enters as the defending ASC champion. Three-time ASC champion East Texas Baptist University (20-10), which reached the title game last season, wrapped up the East’s No. 2 seed. Mississippi College (13-13) earned the No. 3 seed and will make its first ever appearance in the ASC tournament

On the West Division side, 2006 ASC champion Hardin-Simmons University (21-6) went 16-2 against league foes and won the division title for the third time in the last five years. Head coach Sabrina Bingham’s Cowgirls will be the West’s No. 1 seed and will have a first-round bye. Two-time ASC champ Texas Lutheran University (19-9) will be the No. 2 seed. McMurry University (17-11), the 1997 conference champion, locked up the West’s No. 3 seed and will be making a league-record 10th appearance in the ASC tourney.

Friday’s matchups will be ETBU against McMurry in the first round at noon, with the winner facing HSU in the semifinals at 5 p.m. TLU and MC will square off in first-round action on the bracket’s other side at 2:30 p.m., with the victor getting UTD at 7:30 p.m. The championship match is set for 2 p.m. Saturday.
