HITTER OF THE WEEKDavid McKenzie, OF, Sr., Texas Dallas
Senior outfielder David McKenzie (Dallas, Texas / White HS) hit .500 with five doubles and a triple as he sparked the UTD offense to 46 runs in three wins at the Rusty Greer / Jackie Moore Classic in Grand Prairie over the weekend. McKenzie had two extra-base hits in each of the Comets' games as they earned wins over Chapman (17-3), Cal Lutheran (14-8) and Hendrix (15-9). He was 8-of-16 from the plate, scored eight runs, and had six RBI, a .938 slugging percentage and a stolen base.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEKColton Spears, RHP, Sr., Hardin-Simmons
Senior pitcher Colton Spears (Pflugerville, Texas / Pflugerville HS) tossed a gem for the Cowboys in a three-hit complete-game shutout over Hendrix. Spears allowed three singles, one walk with three strikeouts and no runner advanced past second base. He only had 92 pitches in the game.

OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES AT THE PLATE
 
Concordia Texas sophomore outfielder Caleb Maddox (Katy, Texas / Cinco Ranch HS) was one of the most consistent Tornados at the plate over the weekend and was the only player to tally 10 total bases. Maddox had a team-high seven hits for a .538 average with three doubles and three runs scored.
 
East Texas Baptist freshman second baseman Dylan Sumpter (Tyler, Texas / Grace Community HS) has led the team in batting as a freshman with two starts at second base. He had two hits in each game in a sweep of Univ. of Dallas with an RBI in game one and a run scored. He also had an on-base percentage of .500.
 
Hardin-Simmons junior designated hitter Anthony Beasley (Caroline, Va. / Caroline HS) went 8-for-12 in his first games as a Cowboy. The midyear transfer was 4-for-4 against Chapman. Beasley finished the week hitting .667 with a double, one RBI, nine total bases with a .750 slugging percentage and scored three runs.
 
Howard Payne senior second baseman Cody Cain (Midlothian, Texas / Midlothian HS) had three consecutive multi-hit games which included a 3-for-3, three RBI performance against Schreiner. Cain was 2-for-4 in game one and 2-for-5 in game three of the series. Cain finished the week with a .583 batting average, four RBI, a double, eight total bases, a .615 on-base percentage and a .667 slugging percentage.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor junior shortstop Dakota Parsons (Conroe, Texas / College Park HS) hit .350 and slugged .700 against top-flight competition last weekend. Parsons hit two home runs, drove in five runs and scored five more. He also helped turn a double play in the loss to Whitworth.
 
Ozarks sophomore infielder Justin Crider (Dallas, Texas / Liberty HS) went 5-for-12 (.417) over the weekend, with a double, a triple, an RBI and two runs scored, to give Ozarks a 1-2 record at the Millsaps College Invitational.
 
Texas-Tyler junior infielder Trenton Buchhorn (Arlington, Texas / Arlington Martin HS) went 6-for-12 collectively at the plate against Centenary, Texas Lutheran and then No. 7 Trinity (Texas). Buchhorn started the series by going 3-for-4 with two triples in a loss to Centenary and would then go 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored on Saturday in the win over TLU. Buchhorn would finish off the weekend with one hit in the finale against the Tigers. Buchhorn is currently hitting .407 with 11 hits this season and is the only Patriot to have a hit in every game this season.
 
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES ON THE MOUND
 
Concordia Texas junior pitcher Lane Hobbs (Thrall, Texas / Temple JC) was solid in his Tornados debut, throwing six shutout innings against George Fox. He fanned nine Bruins while surrendering just three hits and two walks while holding batters to a.158 batting average. Hobbs was the only Tornado starter to not surrender a run over the weekend.
 
East Texas Baptist senior pitcher Ernest Perez (Corpus Christi, Texas / West Oso HS) had his best start this season going eight innings in a nine-inning game against Univ. of Dallas and moving to 2-0 on the year. Perez did not give up a run in 30 batters faced and set a new career high with seven strikeouts. He only gave up one extra base hit and retired the side twice. Only one runner made it to third base.
 
Howard Payne junior pitcher Tyler Colburn (Midlothian, Texas / Midlothian HS) got his first win of the season throwing five scoreless innings in a start against Schreiner. Colburn allowed just five hits and no walks while striking out four. The 10-1 victory claimed the weekend series for the Jackets.
 
Ozarks freshman pitcher Ely Gordon (Portland, Texas / Gregory-Portland HS) tossed eight innings against LaGrange to earn a win in his collegiate debut. After allowing three hits in the first inning, Gordon settled in and allowed just two hits over the next seven shutout innings. He finished with three strike outs.
 
Sul Ross State pitcher Ely Gallego (Alpine, Texas / Alpine HS) pitched his second complete game victory Saturday with a 3-2 win over Chapman in the second day of the Rusty Greer Classic. Gallego held Chapman to a .219 batting average over nine innings. With the win Gallego improves his season record to 2-1.
 
Texas Dallas senior right-hander Brandon Lee (Dallas, Texas / Greenhill School) struck out five as he pitched the Comets to a 14-8 win over Cal Lutheran Saturday as part of UTD's 3-0 weekend at the Rusty Greer / Jackie Moore Classic in Grand Prairie. Lee scattered five hits while tossing 6.0 innings against the Regals and recorded four strikeouts and held opposing batters to a .250 average at the plate.
 
Texas-Tyler senior pitcher Tyler Stallings (Splendora, Texas / Splendora HS) threw six scoreless innings with four strikeouts and allowed only two hits en route to earning his second win of the season last Saturday against Texas Lutheran. Stallings cruised through the Bulldogs lineup limiting TLU to a .100 batting average. Stallings has not allowed a single earned run through 10 one-third innings of work and has 12 strike outs. He has surrendered only five hits and is the only Patriot with two wins after the first two weekends of the season.
