OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kenne Kessler, F, Sr., Hardin-Simmons
Hardin-Simmons senior forward Kenne Kessler (Highland Village, Texas) broke the ASC career goals record, moving her total to 77. She recorded a hat trick in the first half of a 6-1 victory at East Texas Baptist Thursday to tie the mark of 76 held by Cowgirl alum Amy Kuykendall (2006-10). Kessler broke the record with a goal in a 4-0 victory at LeTourneau, earning her sixth career Player of the Week honors.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Meagan Chavez, D, Sr., UT Dallas
UT Dallas senior defender Meagan Chavez (El Paso, Texas) anchored a Comet back line that did not allow in goal in three games last week. After sitting out Tuesday’s 8-0 non-conference road win at Austin, Chavez was in the starting lineup for both of UTD’s ASC games that held their foes to 10 total shots, five on goal. Chavez and the Comets have recorded eight shutouts and only one goal in nine games this season.
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES
Offensive
LeTourneau freshman midfielder Kara Gipson (Fort Worth, Texas) assisted on two goals in a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over McMurry on Thursday. Both assists came on corner kicks for the YellowJackets.
Ozarks senior forward Madison Chaney (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) recorded a hat trick in a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over Concordia Texas Thursday.
East Texas Baptist freshman midfielder/defender Brianna Mickshaw (Katy, Texas) scored the game-winning goal in the 74th minute in a 2-1 victory against McMurry.
UT Tyler sophomore defender Kiara Rolen (Carrollton, Texas) and Kaelyn Steitz (McKinney, Texas) each netted a pair of goals as the Patriots went 1-0-1 on the week. Steitz scored the lone goal in a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Mary Hardin-Baylor and had another in a win over Concordia Texas. Rolen posted the final two goals in the 3-0 victory over the Tornados.
Howard Payne senior midfielder Dayane Gutierrez (Haltom City, Texas) dished out two assists and recorded three shots in 3-0 shutout of Louisiana College.
Concordia Texas sophomore midfielder Cayla Gonzalez (Austin, Texas) scored the first goal of the game for the Tornados against Ozarks on Thursday in a 3-1 loss.
UT Dallas senior forward Melissa Fulfer (Arlington, Texas) recorded a hat trick in Tuesday’s 8-0 win at Austin then added a goal in the Comets’ 5-0 victory at Louisiana College. Fulfer pitched in two assists in Saturday’s 6-0 victory at Belhaven to finish with 10 points in UTD’s three victories.
Defensive
Hardin-Simmons senior midfielder Sarah Krisa (Midland, Texas) helped the No. 7/9 Cowgirls to a pair of road victories – 6-1 at East Texas Baptist and a 4-0 shutout at LeTourneau. Krisa and the HSU defense allowed just eight shots and three on goal in the two contests.
Mary Hardin-Baylor senior defender Sydney Rangel (Midlothian, Texas) helped the Cru to a 1-0-1 week, with a 1-1 tie against UT Tyler and 3-0 win at Ozarks. Rangel and the UMHB defense allowed the Patriots just six shots on goal in the double-overtime game. Rangel assisted the game-winning goal at Ozarks and helped allow just Eagle shots.
Hardin-Simmons senior midfielder Sarah Krisa (Midland, Texas) led the possession game for the No. 7 Cowgirls in a 3-1 win against Sul Ross State, limiting the Lobos to no corner kicks.
Ozarks sophomore goalkeeper Kiara Henry (Rogers, Ark.) went 1-1 for the Eagles, making 24 saves with a 2.00 goals against average.
Howard Payne freshman defender Mariah Gonzalez (Buda, Texas) led the Lady Jackets defensive unit that shutout Louisiana College 3-0. Her side of the field did not allow a goal in two games. She also recorded two assists as the Lady Jackets also picked up a 4-2 victory at Belhaven.
Concordia Texas junior defender Alicia Pineda (Austin, Texas) recorded her first assist of the season against UT Tyler while playing from the right-back position.
