RICHARDSON, Texas – Louisiana College junior
Alex Ashby claimed Player of the Year, while East Texas Baptist sophomore starter
Isaiah Alvarenga was the Pitcher of the Year to highlight the 2021 American Southwest Conference baseball awards and all-conference teams as selected by vote of the coaches.
Ashby hit .408 with 60 hits, 40 runs, 16 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 41 RBI. He also had a slugging percentage of .748, on-base percentage of .506 and stole 11 bases.
Alvarenga posted a 9-3 record with a 2.08 ERA. He threw eight complete games, including a pair of shutouts, and struck out 78 batters in 82.1 innings.

Isaac Aleman was the Freshman of the Year and teammate first baseman
Carsen Thor was the Newcomer of the Year. Aleman hit .354 with 35 hits, 19 runs, eight doubles, two home runs, 21 RBI and two steals. Thor led the Lobos with a .379 average, 50 hits, 32 runs scored, seven home runs and 43 RBI.

East Texas Baptist’
Jared Hood and the Tigers earned the Coaching Staff of the Year. It was the second time Hood has won the award. He led ETBU to a 29-16 record and a trip to the ASC Championship Finals.
Thirteen players repeated as All-Conference selections, with Concordia Texas outfielder
Bret Leiferman and shortstop
Casen Novak being picked for the fourth time in their careers.
