RICHARDSON, Texas – The
No. 1 seed UT Dallas defeated the
No. 5 seed Hardin-Simmons 3-1 on Friday night in the 2022 ASC Volleyball Semifinal. The Comets had 10-point wins bookend a pair of close sets that saw the teams split. After trading sets, the Comets held on in the third and were able to pull away despite the Cowgirls battling to the final point. The set scores were 25-15, 22-25, 25-22, 25-15.
The Comets were led by Abby Jones and Madison Ball, who each recorded a double-double in kills and digs. Jones had 11 kills and 18 digs, while Ball matched the team-high in kills to go with a game-high 26 digs. Jones served four aces, which accounted for half of UTD’s total. Catherine Croft chipped in eight kills and had five block assists. Emma Sevening, who was ASC Volleyball Setter of the Year, and Izzy Sundquist combined for 44 assists with 24 and 20, respectively.
The Cowgirls were paced by Aubree McCann with 19 kills and 20 digs for a double-double of her own. Liz Underwood and Abbi Allen each contributed nine kills. Ali Meyer reached double-digits in assists (18) and digs (14). A trio of players eclipsed 20 digs, as HSU held a 98-95 edge in digs.
UT Dallas improved to 19-5 on the season and has won six straight. This is the ninth conference championship appearance in a row and will look to defend last year’s title. The Comets won their 32nd tournament match, which is tops in the league’s history. Hardin-Simmons ends its season at 14-10.

The
No. 3 seed East Texas Baptist defeated the
No. 2 seed Mary Hardin-Baylor in five sets (3-2) to advance to the ASC Championship against top-seed UT Dallas. The Tigers answered back with two wins after dropping the first set by 12. UMHB had pulled away in the opening set and held off elimination with a tight fourth set win. A rally got the Cru close in the last set after being behind, but ETBU never trailed in the pivotal fifth to secure the upset. The scores were 13-25, 25-15, 25-20, 22-25, 15-10.
The Tigers were led by Avery Reid with 26 kills. Conference MVP and Freshman of the Year Graycee Mosley notched a double-double with 20 kills and 26 digs. Kristin Kruger chipped in 17 kills. Lexi Moody had 58 assists and the Tigers collected 105 digs. Behind Moseley’s team-high were McKenzie Mansell (24) and Lillie Hill (23).
Mary Hardin-Baylor was led by Hannah Frasca with a double-double in kills and digs with 14 each. Katie Warden followed in kills with 13, while Kaylie Vasil added 10. Ella Brunson posted a double-double in assists and digs with 37 and 25 to lead the Cru in those categories.
East Texas Baptist improves to 20-6 on the season and are back in the conference championship for the first time since 2013. That is also the last time the ASC Championship did not have UT Dallas and UMHB. The win was also the 25th in the tournament for the Tigers and ties them for second most in the league. Mary Hardin-Baylor concludes its season at 17-8.
