2023 ASC Championship Central
RICHARDSON, Texas - Concordia Texas men’s tennis earned the 2023 ASC Men’s Tennis Championship title after edging Hardin-Simmons, 5-4, on Saturday (Apr. 22) at UTD Tennis Complex. The Tornados won their second ASC Men’s Tennis Championship overall and second in the past three seasons.
Concordia Texas (17-4) earns the automatic qualifier and advances to the NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championship. The NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Selection will be released on May 1 on NCAA.com.
The Tornados jumped out to a 2-1 advantage through doubles. Tournament Most Valuable Player Joshua Bode continued leading his team with an 8-5 win with Adrian Munguia on flight one doubles. Bode also won in ace singles 6-2, 6-2. Daniel Beckles/Andres Padilla would take flight three doubles, 8-5.
Hardin-Simmons (12-7) had flight two on doubles with James Moore/Desmond O’Shea capturing an 8-6 score. The Cowboys turned the momentum with a 4-3 lead throughout the singles. Moore won flight three, while Justus Petersilie won flight six to even the score. Davyn Williford won flight five to give HSU the lead.
Flights four and two saw the Tornados persevere with both being decided down to the wire. Beckles kept Concordia Texas alive and Munguia delivered the final win, as the Tornados won their rematch from last year’s tournament.

ASC Semifinals - Day 2

Concordia Texas won on Friday (April 21) to advance to the 2023 ASC Men's Tennis Championship. This will be a rematch of the title match a season ago. Hardin-Simmons won that season, 5-2, and earned its eighth ASC Men’s Tennis title. The Tornados do have one tournament title, which came in 2021.
The teams square off at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Apr. 22) at UTD Tennis Complex.
Hardin-Simmons swept Mary Hardin-Baylor, 5-0, to begin the semifinals in the morning. Brice Bradshaw/Nathan Schoendorf won doubles flight one 8-6. James Moore/Desmond O’Shea scored an 8-3 win in flight two doubles, while Davyn Williford/Zach Fowler polished the perfect start with an 8-4 result in flight three. Bradshaw won win ace singles 6-2, 6-3 and Justus Petersilie won flight six with a pair of 6-2 results to advance the regular season West Division champions.
Concordia Texas earned a hard-fought win over host UT Dallas, 5-3, in the afternoon tilt. CTX’s Joshua Bode/Adrian Munguia won doubles flight one 8-1 and Daniel Beckles/Andres Padilla had flight three 8-3 to secure a 2-1 edge. The Comets countered with a win in doubles flight two by Snehin Yerragudi/Nicholas Bouquet 8-6. Bode from the Tornados had a win in singles flight one and UTD answered in flight six. Ritvik Ganesan leveled the overall score at 3-3, but Padilla and Esteban Arredondo came through in wire-to-wire matchups that lifted the Tornados to a West Division showdown.

ASC Quarterfinals - Day 1

Mary Hardin-Baylor prevailed in the 2023 American Southwest Conference Championship quarterfinals on Thursday (Apr. 20) morning. The Tornados defeated Ozarks, 5-0, while the Cru edged ETBU, 5-3.
UMHB grabbed a 2-1 lead in Doubles, as Nicolas Cusano/Joaquim Fernandes won 8-5 in flight one. Brylee White/Spencer Hornbeck secured an 8-5 win in flight two. The Tigers won the third flight in a closely contested 8-7 result that Max Karseno/Zach Couch earned. The Cru picked up wins in single flights three, four, and five, as White, Ethan Kittredge, and Drew Gonzales won the respective matchups to move the Cru to the semifinals.
Mary Hardin-Baylor plays the No. 1 seed in the West Division Hardin-Simmons on Friday (Apr. 21) at 10:00 a.m.
The Tornados swept Ozarks in the other 2023 ASC Championship quarterfinals matchup on Thursday (Apr. 20) morning. Joshua Bode/Adrian Munguia won the doubles No. 1 flight 8-5 and Esteban Arredondo/Joeri Bregman repeated that score in the second flight. Daniel Beckles/Andres Padilla won the third doubles flight 8-0. The Tornados captured single flights one and five to complete the win.
Concordia Texas faces host school and No. 1 seed in the East Division UT Dallas on Friday (Apr. 21) at 2:00 p.m.
