NCAA Division III Championship Tournament Central
MARSHALL, Texas – East Texas Baptist baseball team erupted for a huge 16-6 victory over Cal Lutheran on Friday (May 19) to open NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Regional play. The Tigers (36-11) have won six straight at their home confines dating back to five in a row to claim their first American Southwest Conference Baseball Championship.
The Tigers scored in six of eight innings including a four-run first that erased a two-run gap to start the contest. After posting a run in the third and fourth frames, it was a combined 10 runs in the sixth through eighth that lifted ETBU to its first NCAA Baseball Championship Tournament victory.
Altogether, there were 15 hits for the Tigers which were highlighted by three home runs, and they took advantage of seven errors. Jacob Evangelista (4-5, 3 R, 2 RBI), Jordan Hara (3-4, 3 R, 5 RBI), and Jase Jones (3-5, 3 R, 3 RBI) clubbed the long balls and were the stars in the box score.
East Texas Baptist plays Trinity in the winner’s bracket at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday (May 20). The loser will play in an elimination game following.
