East Texas Baptist ends Historic World Series Run as one of Final Four

NCAA Division III Championship Central

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – East Texas Baptist baseball team closed its historic season on day four of the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Tournament, dropping a 7-1 result to No. 3 Lynchburg on Monday (June 5). East Texas Baptist (42-15) was one of the final four teams playing in the World Series and capped its first national tournament appearance with a 7-4 record.
 
Lynchburg (46-7) struck for three runs in its first at bat. ETBU got a run back in the next half inning as Brett Wagner scored Ben Lea on a groundout. Lea had the only multi-hit game for the Tigers with two, as the offense was limited to six hits. One of Lea’s hits was a triple. The Hornets scored a run in the second inning and separated the score with three runs in the sixth. Wesley Arrington started for Lynchburg and tossed a complete game.
 
East Texas Baptist ends its campaign with the most wins in program history, won the American Southwest Conference regular season and tournament titles. The team hosted and won its first Regional and Super Regionals. The Tigers were led by Player of the Year Ben Lea and Pitcher of the Year Sayers Collins, who had significant moments in the World Series. Led by Head Coach Jarred Hood, ETBU had the ASC Coaching Staff of the Year that included Hood, Tanner Matthews, Tyler Bates, Andrew Loudermilk, and Casey Combs.
