Comets selected to win 2023 ASC Men's Cross Country Title

DALLAS – UT Dallas earned the nod as favorites for the 2023 American Southwest Conference Men’s Cross Country championship in a vote by the league’s head coaches. The Comets tallied 78 points with six first-place votes. They finished second in the 2022 ASC Championships. UTD is led by 2022 individual medalist Graeme Maclean, who was on the 2023 Runners to Watch list. The Comets will host the ASC Championship on October 28.

McMurry followed in second place with 68 points and claimed the remaining three top votes. The War Hawks captured the 2022 ASC title, which was their third overall and first since consecutive titles in 1999 and 2000.

LeTourneau followed in third with 60 points, while Concordia Texas had 53 points for fourth. East Texas Baptist (37), Ozarks (34), and Hardin-Simmons (33) fill in spots fifth through seventh and have a spread of four points. Mary Hardin-Baylor (24) and Sul Ross State (18) round out the group. Sul Ross State is eligible for postseason play due to cross country not having an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championship.

Coaches named 14 ASC Runners to Watch which in addition to Graeme includes: LeTourneau sophomore David Dugan (Freshman of the Year) and East Texas Baptist junior David Zepeda (Newcomer of the Year) that earned major conference awards at the 2022 championship. Six runners in this group earned ASC All-Conference in 2022.

The first meets of the fall season are slated for September 1 and 2.
