Sayers Collins has been named the Society of American Research (SABR) Metroplex Carroll Beringer College Division Player of the Year. Collins is the sixth player from the American Southwest Conference to earn the award.
All-time Carroll Beringer Award winners from the ASC: Chase Brown, UT Dallas (2012); Brandon George, UT Dallas (2015); Conner Combs, East Texas Baptist (2016); Casey Combs, East Texas Baptist (2019); A.J. Liu, UT Dallas (2020); Sayers Collins, East Texas Baptist (2023).
This award is also named along with the Howard Green SABR Metroplex Division I Player of the Year award who went to Texas Christian University's Brayden Taylor. These prestigious collegiate baseball awards honor the memory of longtime DFW SABR president Howard Green and Carroll Beringer, former big league pitching coach who was a great supporter of college baseball in the area.
Collins continued his award-winning year, as he also has ABCA All-America First Team, ASC Pitcher of the Year, D3baseball.com All-America Second Team, First Team Region 10, Region 10 Pitcher of the Year, and All-ASC First Team. His 12 wins tied a single-season record in the conference and 135 strikeouts surpassed his own league record from 2022. Collins was three strikeouts away from matching the career record as he accumulated 129.
