DALLAS – Week two is on the docket for the American Southwest Conference. It is another slate of non-conference action with all eight ASC teams on the gridiron. Mary Hardin-Baylor and Hardin-Simmons lock up with other national ranked teams. One conference member has a matchup with a former conference foe. FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK AND TOP PERFORMANCES
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Gaylonn Glynn, QB, Sr., Hardin-Simmons
Hardin-Simmons senior quarterback Gaylonn Glynn (Waco, Texas) went 20 for 24 for 354 yards and totaled four touchdowns to lead the Cowboys past Albright, 47-3. Glynn helped HSU roll up 628 yards on offense and ran for 66 yards. It was the ninth straight season-opening win for Hardin-Simmons.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Peyton Lowe, LB, Sr., Howard Payne
Howard Payne senior linebacker Peyton Lowe (Gunter, Texas) anchored an HPU defense that kept George Fox out of the endzone in a 17-3 victory for the Yellow Jackets. Lowe had a team-high eight tackles and forced a fumble. He was part of a unit that had two goal line stands versus the Bruins in what was a tight game throughout the night.
 
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Jack Bruner, K, So., Mary Hardin-Baylor
Mary Hardin-Baylor sophomore kicker Jack Bruner (Wimberley, Texas) went 3-for-3 in field goals with two 37-yard kicks and one 40-yarder. He added one PAT with seven kickoffs for 407 yards with a 58.1 average. He also had five punts total 188 yards.

Two teams from the league picked up victories in the first week. Hardin-Simmons won its ninth straight opening game with a 47-3 victory over Albright. Gaylon Glynn went 20-for-24 for 354 yards and had four scores. HSU totaled 628 yards and held its opponent to 269. Goddy Pyeatt scored two touchdowns, which included a 37-yard reception. The win propelled the Cowboys to No. 6 in the national rankings.
 
Howard Payne also captured its first victory of the season with a 17-3 win at George Fox. The Yellow Jackets broke a scoreless tie in the second quarter with a touchdown to Jordan Carroll. HPU had two goal line stands and limited the Bruins to just 17 yards rushing. After allowing a field goal in the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets pushed the game out of reach with a 10-point fourth.
 
McMurry nearly had an amazing comeback with 19 points in the fourth quarter that ended up one-shy in a 20-19 setback to Birmingham Southern. Drew Hagler reached the end zone twice and Jess Hoel had his first touchdown pass as the McMurry quarterback.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor fell in a matchup between top 25 nationally ranked teams, as its road trip to UW-River Falls was unsuccessful. Jerry Cephus and Jerry Day had touchdowns, while Jack Bruner was 3-for-3 on field goals.
 
Texas Lutheran also had an opponent in the top 25 rankings with No. 21 UW-Oshkosh. The Bulldogs dropped a 48-31 decision on the road. Jacob Wallace had three catches for 68 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
 
East Texas Baptist fell 34-14 in its rivalry matchup at Louisiana Christian. Down three, 10-7, after one quarter, the home Wildcats pulled away with 14 points in the second quarter. ETBU was led by Jaden Thomas with 58 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown.
 
Sul Ross State competed well with NCAA Division II Western New Mexico in a 42-28 setback. The Lobos used a 21-point second quarter to go ahead by a touchdown into halftime. Things were deadlocked heading into the final 15 minutes, but Western New Mexico edged with two scores. Andrew Martinez had 23 completions and 332 yards with four touchdowns including a 77-yard touchdown.
 
Austin fell to Nebraska Wesleyan in its home opener, 19-7. Down 12 at the break, the ‘Roos scored a touchdown in the third quarter on a fake handoff that led to a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Peyton Kelly.
