DALLAS – East Texas Baptist freshman midfielder
Junior Lopez was named American Southwest Conference Offensive Player of the Year while Hardin-Simmons graduate student defender
Maxwell Winneker was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year to headline the 2024 ASC Men’s Soccer awards and all-conference teams as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
Lopez, who has also been named Offensive Freshman of the Year, lead the ASC in goals with 10 and was tied for points with 22 total. He recorded 38 shots this season with 22 on goal while adding two assists. Lopez started in 18 games for the Tigers, contributing more than 1,200 minutes on the field.
Winneker helped Hardin-Simmons post a 6-2 conference record and earn the programs first American Southwest Conference title in 10 years. He was part of a defense that recorded six overall shutouts and four conference shutout wins. The Cowboys defense only allowed 1.16 goals against per game. Winneker started in 17 games as he led the backline averaging 84.5 minutes per game. He has also recorded six goals for the Cowboys with one assist.
Mary Hardin-Baylor senior midfielder
Sawyer Young grabbed Midfielder of the Year for the second consecutive season. He started in all 19 games for the Cru, guiding them to an ASC Regular Season Champion title with more than 1,500 minutes spent on the field. Young added two goals on the season, including a penalty kick score, while shooting eight of 15 shots on frame.
Mary Hardin-Baylor sophomore goalkeeper
Hayden Owens was selected Goalkeeper of the Year for the second straight season. He recorded six shutouts and 65 saves on 175 shots faced in the 2024 campaign. Owens had a goals against average of just 1.114 overall and .933 in conference action.
East Texas Baptist freshman goalkeeper
Ryan Lord was voted Defensive Freshman of the Year. He totals 71 goals with a 1.85 goals against average. Lord started in 17 contests for the Tigers and recorded a shutout.
Howard Payne junior defender
Deaven Connelly was named Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year.
Mary Hardin-Baylor earned the Coaching Staff of the Year, which is led by Head Coach
Ben Allen. Allen claims his first ASC Coach of the Year honor. Allen and his Assistant Coach Malik Shaheed guided the Cru to a 10-6-3 overall record and 7-0-1 ASC record. The Cru finished first in the standings and earning the Regular Season Champion title.
