Tornadoes Win 2024 ASC Men's Tennis Championship; 3rd since 2021

2024 ASC Championship Central 

WACO, Texas – Concordia Texas prevailed 5-1 over East Texas Baptist at Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center at Baylor University, claiming the 2024 American Southwest Conference Men’s Tennis Championship on Saturday. The Tornados earn the ASC Men’s Tennis Title consecutive seasons and third overall with each coming since 2021.
 
Concordia Texas is the automatic qualifier from the ASC to the NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championship Tournament. Selections are announced on Monday, May 6, at 11:30 a.m. CST and can be watched on NCAA.org.  
 
Joshua Bode was named Tournament Most Valuable Player, as he has helped lead the Tornados to a 15-5 record this season and was able to earn wins in line 1 doubles (8-2) and line 1singles (6-0, 6-0) on Friday against UT Dallas. This is the second year in a row Bodes was selected ASC MVP for the All-Tournament Team.
 
Saturday’s match was tight through doubles, as Concordia Texas (15-5) won by two points in both is wins. ETBU (15-7) claimed a point in an 8-7 win on line 1 doubles. The Tornados pushed out to a commanding lead with two sweeps in set 1 on line 4 and line 6. A 6-1 advantage on line 3 put CTX in strong position, as Kishan Kersten, Daniel Beckles, and Steven Scholz won in that order to earn the championship. The trio was also named to the 2024 ASC All-Tournament Team.
 
Concordia Texas is the fourth school to win consecutive ASC Men’s Tennis Championships in tournament history. This is the fifth occasion that it has occurred.
