WACO, Texas – Concordia Texas graduate student
Joshua Bode and UT Dallas sophomore
Snehin Yerragudi were named Most Valuable Players for their respective divisions to headline the 2024 American Southwest Conference Men’s Tennis Awards, released Thursday. Bode was MVP for the West Division and Yerragudi was MVP for the East Division. Any players named First Team for the East or West Division automatically was named to the All-Conference team.
Bode is a two-time MVP and earned the honor consecutive seasons after his leadership helped the Tornados capture back-to-back ASC Men’s Tennis Championships. Bode went 17-2 in flight 1 singles this season and was 14-6 in flight 1 doubles with Adrian Munguia. Bode was named ASC Tournament MVP after the Tornados won 5-1 in the finals. He reached the Quarterfinals at the ITA Championships in the fall of 2023, earning automatic All-American status for the 2023-24 season.
Yerragudi was one-of-two Comets to produce double-digits in wins at singles with a 10-3 record, with a 2-0 mark at flight 2. He did most of his damage at flight 3 with an 8-3 record and was perfect against East Division opponents. Yerragudi was also 6-6 in flight 3 doubles, but had a 3-1 mark in division play.
His teammate
Benjamin Dubois was named East Division Newcomer of the Year. Dubois tallied the most wins in singles play for the Comets with 11. He was 9-2 at flight 4 and added a pair of victories at flight 6. He was a combined 8-6 in doubles play, making appearances at flight 1 and flight 2.
LeTourneau’s
Chase Rogers was the East Division Freshman of the Year after a spectacular campaign. Rogers led the YellowJackets with a 13-6 record in singles that featured a 10-3 mark at flight 2. He was 15-5 in doubles with Zach Farris and the tandem went unbeaten in conference play and was 13-2 overall.
Concordia Texas
Steven Scholz earned West Division Freshman of the Year and was an All-Tournament winner after capturing the winning set to lift the Tornados to the 2024 ASC Title. Scholz posted a 14-3 record in singles which included seven wins in flight 2 and flight 3. He went 5-1 in doubles action.
Howard Payne senior
Landon Ferree was named ASC Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year for the East Division for the second consecutive year. The West Division selected a quintet of winners including Esteban Arredondo (Concordia Texas), Jordan Oberbilig (Hardin-Simmons), Santiago Marin Suarez, (Mary Hardin-Baylor), Khoen Gregory (McMurry), and Jackson Taylor (Sul Ross State).
East Texas Baptist Head Coach
Drew Lambert was named ASC East Division Coach of the Year after a historic season for the Tigers. He guided his team to a program-most 15 wins and won the first ASC East Division Regular Season Championship. ETBU pulled off first-ever wins against Mary Hardin-Baylor and Hardin-Simmons this season and would appear in its first ASC Championship. The Tigers were ranked No. 10 in the ITA Regional Rankings for the first time since 2019 and second overall.
Concordia Texas Head Coach
Jeff Bramlett was tabbed ASC West Division Coach of the Year. He led the Tornados to consecutive ASC Men’s Tennis Championships in as many seasons and an ASC West Division Regular Season Championship after a 15-5 record and defeating all three teams in the same division. CTX won 5-0 in the semifinals and 5-1 in the finals to advance to the national tournament. The team sits ninth in the latest ITA Regional Rankings. Bramlett has earned ASC Coach of the Year honors in his career, as he was a three-time recipient of the ASC East Division for Women’s Tennis when he led the East Texas Baptist Women’s program.
