PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Caitlyn Panuco, G, Sr., Howard Payne
Caitlyn Panuco from Howard Payne put together an impressive two-game stretch for the Yellow Jackets, averaging 20.5 points while shooting efficiently from the floor and providing steady production on both ends. She opened the week with 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting against McMurry, adding five assists and two steals while playing 35 minutes. Panuco followed it with a standout 24-point, seven rebound performance vs. Austin College, knocking down two threes and going 8-of-12 at the line. Across the week she totaled 41 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and three steals.
OTHER OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES
Tristan Smith from East Texas Baptist almost averaged a double-double at 13.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game in three games last week, helping ETBU to a 6-0 record. She had a double-double against Ozarks with 18 points and 12 rebounds in 24 minutes of play. She followed that in a tight win over Piedmont, posting 14 points and nine rebounds. On Saturday, she had seven points and eight rebounds in a comeback win over Concordia Texas. In three games, she went 17-of-18 in free throws, going 10-of-10 vs. Ozarks and 6-of-6 vs. Piedmont.
Hardin-Simmons Jacqueline Berry led the Cowgirls with 18 points in the win over Trinity. She finished with five steals, four assists, and eight rebounds for a balanced night, shooting 40 percent for Hardin-Simmons.
Mia Lozoya from Mary Hardin-Baylor went off in the Cru's win over previously unbeaten Southwestern. She was 7-for-10 with five made three-pointers for an .833 percentage. She added one free throw with two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Lozoya totaled 19 points in the contest. She also tallied four points and four rebounds against LaVerne, adding two steals.
